HONOLULU – Chaminade University women's volleyball head coach
Kahala Kabalis Hoke announced Wednesday five recruits for the fall 2021 season.
Taylor Aguano
Taylor Aguano is a senior from Chandler High School in Gilbert, Ariz. The 5-foot-8 setter was named to the Sports360AZ Academic Fall Sports Team this past December after compiling 403 assists (7.9 per set) with 108 digs, 26 blocks, 23 kills and 26 service aces her senior year while earning All-Premier 6A Second Team honors as a junior. She played club volleyball for AZ East Valley Juniors. Her father, Shaun, is from Kapa'a, Kaua'i and is currently the running backs coach for the Arizona State University football team.
Marcelle Butler
Marcelle Butler is a transfer from Division I Howard University in Washington, D.C. The 6-foot outside hitter is coming off a spring 2021 season where she led the Bison in kills at 2.25 per set with a season-high 14 at Coppin State on Feb. 25. The native of Canton, Ga., helped Howard win two consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) titles and had a career-high 17 kills against George Mason as a freshman. Butler will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Alexia Byrnes
Alexia Byrnes is a transfer from Division I Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. The 5-10 setter is 10th in school history in assists with 1,258 during her two-year career while her 6.39 average is sixth highest. The native of Lisle, Ill., is coming off a spring 2021 season where she led the Penguins in assists with 142, averaging 3.09 per set, and is also a capable attacker with 218 career kills. Bynes was one of the top 20 setters in the nation by Prep Volleyball during her senior year of high school. She will be reunited with former YSU teammates
Brooklen Pe'a and
Kaybrie Pe'a and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Greta Corti
Greta Corti is a transfer from Division I University of San Francisco in San Francisco, Calif. The 6-1 outside hitter averaged 3.77 kills per set this past spring which was second on the Dons' squad with a season-high 20 against Saint Mary's on March 13. She also finished second in digs with 201 and fifth in total blocks with 21 while completing on USF's beach volleyball squad which began shortly after the completion of the indoor season. The native of Varese, Italy, will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Anna Dalla Vecchia
Transferring with Corti from San Francisco is
Anna Dalla Vecchia, a 5-7 libero who is a two-time All-West Coast Conference (WCC) selection. She was named to the All-WCC First Team this past spring and was an honorable mention pick in 2019. The native of Vicenza, Italy, is coming off a 339-dig season which led the WCC while her 4.84 digs per set average finished second in the league. In her three-year career with the Dons, Dalla Vecchia is sixth in the school's career list with 1,244 while her 4.3 average ranks third. She will have one season of eligibility remaining.
