Volleyball Picked 2nd in PacWest Poll

IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is tied for second in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Poll in voting conducted by the conference coaches.
 
The Silverswords received 103 points, tied with the University of Hawai'i Hilo, for second. Two-time defending PacWest champion Azusa Pacific is the preseason favorite with 106 points.

The 'Swords actually received the most first-place votes with six, three more than APU. UH Hilo and Biola garnered one first-place vote each.
 
The conference's preseason team was also announced with Corinne Acosta of Fresno Pacific selected by the coaches as the Preseason Player of the Year while Concordia's Brianna Latigue is the Preseason Setter of the Year. Preseason Libero of the Year is Courtney Dyer of Point Loma.
 
Meanwhile, Chaminade is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll with 23 points, good for No. 48.
 
The 'Swords open the season Saturday in the Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge with Alaska and Alaska Anchorage visiting McCabe Gymnasium. Chaminade meets the Nanooks at noon then the Seawolves at 6 p.m. Like the 'Swords, UAA is among those receiving votes in the AVCA Poll with 114. Chaminade and UAA split its two meetings in Hilo this past spring. All three teams will face each other again on Sunday.
 
Because of recent government gathering restrictions, fans will not be allowed in McCabe Gym until further notice. However live streaming video via Stretch Internet will be complementary for the second straight year.
