Lau Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Kayleen Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) of the Chaminade University women's tennis team was named Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic Division II All-District At-Large Team as voted by members of CoSIDA.
 
Lau is one of 10 female student-athletes from various Olympic sports named to the District 8 Team which encompasses the three conferences in the D-II West Region (Pacific West, Great Northwest Athletic, California Collegiate Athletic).
 
Lau owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.90 in Cellular and Molecular Biology. On the court, the junior played all 11 singles matches at the No. 1 spot with three no-decisions. In doubles, she played in nine matches, eight as the team's top tandem. Six of Lau's doubles matches were unfinished.
 
Off the court, she was the president of Chaminade's SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and helped to organize several events while continuing to help her fellow student-athletes navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The 2021-22 Silversword Award winner is also forgoing her final year of athletic eligibility to attend the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) through Chaminade's articulation agreement with the school. Lau was accepted into the BUSM Early Medical School Selection Program last year and will attend its medical school after finishing her undergraduate degree at BU in 2023.
 
Lau is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America status, which will be announced in June.
 
It is the second straight year a Silversword tennis player was honored as a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team. Catrina Liner was named to the team last year.
 
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.
