BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Chaminade University men's golf team wrapped up its first-ever fall season mainland road trip Tuesday with a 944 at the par-72, 6,610-yard Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
The Silverswords shot a final round 317, finishing 11 shots behind Northwest Nazarene.
After shooting in the 70s in the first two rounds,
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) struggled in the final round with an 81. However, the senior still finished with Chaminade's lowest tournament score of 232, tying him for 68th place overall.
Kal O'Brien (Mackinaw City, Mich./Marymount California Univ./Mackinaw City HS) shot a 6-over-par 78 on Tuesday, putting him just three shots behind Peterson at 235. He was the only 'Swords' golfer to break 80 in all three rounds.
Zachary DuBourdieu (Carlsbad, Calif./Sage Creek) also carded a final-round 78 for a 238 in the tournament.
Ethan Alexander (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) posted a final round 80 and finished at 242 while
Matt Monaghan (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) shot 81 on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 244. Monaghan was also the team's tournament leader in birdies with nine.
Host Western Washington captured its own tournament with an 852, winning the team title by five shots over runner-up Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Edvin Backstrom of Holy Names captured the individual title by birding the first playoff hole against CSUDH's Andy Yoon. Both finished regulation at 8-under 208.
The Silverswords' next scheduled event is the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout on Oct. 25-26.
