IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University libero
Hula Crisostomo (Honolulu/Univ. of Texas El Paso/Moanalua HS) has been named by the Pacific West Conference as the Defender of the Week while the Silverswords are the conference's Team of the Week.
Crisostomo, the graduate transfer from the University of Texas El Paso, totaled 60 digs for a 6.0 average last week. In the 'Swords four-set win over Biola on Oct. 18, she came up with 30 digs, tying her for fifth in program history in a four-set match. She also had 15 each in sweeps against Fresno Pacific and Westmont.
Crisostomo is averaging a PacWest-leading 4.95 digs per set which ranks 33rd nationally in Division II.
The 22-2 Silverswords, who moved up one spot to No. 15 in Monday's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Poll, earned the team award after winning all three matches last week to extend their winning streak to nine. The win over Biola also gave them their fifth straight 20-win championship season (excluding the COVID-shortened spring 2021 with 16 matches and no D-II postseason).
Chaminade (10-2 PacWest) embarks on a crucial five-match to southern California this week. Right off the bat, the 'Swords will face the two teams who handed them their only losses in Concordia University Irvine (10-9, 6-5 PacWest) on Thursday followed by conference-leading Point Loma (15-4, 12-0 PacWest) on Saturday, the latter of which could very well determine the PacWest championship. The Sea Lions will carry a 12-match winning streak heading into Saturday's clash.
