11/20/2023 3:17:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Region and will face No. 8 seeded San Francisco State (18-10) in the opening round on Thursday, Nov. 30 in San Bernardino, California.

The Silverswords, runners-up in the Pacific West Conference who finished the regular season with a record 29-3 mark, are the region's top seed for the first time in program history. It marks the sixth postseason appearance in program history and the fourth in the past five championship seasons.

It will be a rematch from the Sept. 8 meeting against the Gators in Pomona, California, where the 'Swords won in five sets. The two teams also faced each other in 2022 which was also won by Chaminade in five.

The CUH-SFSU winner will face the victor of the No. 4 seed Cal State Los Angeles-No. 5 Seattle Pacific on Friday, Dec. 1. On the opposite end of the bracket, No. 2 seed and site host Cal State San Bernardino will face No. 7 seed Central Washington while third-seeded Cal Poly Pomona faces No. 6 and PacWest champion Point Loma. The winner of the West will join the seven other regional winners at the NCAA Division II Championships in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, from Dec. 7-9.

Match times will be announced later.

The 'Swords, who remain No. 14 in the final AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll released earlier in the day, earned the top seed thanks to an undefeated non-conference slate where they went 12-0. Aside from their win over SFSU, they also defeated Cal Poly Pomona. Their only two losses were against Point Loma.

Head coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke has been involved in all six of Chaminade's regional appearances, reaching two as a player (2022, 2004) and four as coach (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023).

Last year, the 'Swords, as the lowest seed in the West, advanced to the West Regional final by pulling off two upsets including top-seeded Alaska Anchorage in the opening round.
