INDIANAPOLIS – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team is No. 1 in the first set of numbered rankings released by the NCAA.
The Silverswords (26-3 overall, 14-3 Pacific West Conference) are the region's top-ranked team for the first time in school history. Cal State San Bernardino is ranked second while Point Loma is third and Seattle Pacific fourth.
The remainder of the rankings are Cal State Los Angeles, San Francisco State, Cal Poly Pomona, Central Washington, Sonoma State and Simon Fraser.
The 'Swords are 4-2 against teams in the current rankings with their only two losses coming against Pacific West Conference-leading Point Loma.
The top eight teams in the final rankings will receive bids to the NCAA West Regional. The champions from the PacWest, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) will receive automatic bids while the remaining five will be at-large selections. CSUSB is currently leading the CCAA while SPU is tops in the GNAC.
The final rankings and the entire 64-team NCAA Division II Tournament field will be unveiled on Monday, Nov. 20. The regionals will be at eight host institutions with the eight winners advancing to the NCAA Division II Championships in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, from Dec. 7-9.
Chaminade will conclude the regular season with three home matches at McCabe Gymnasium starting Friday against Dominican University of California.
