Baseball Selected Ninth in Preseason Poll

IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University baseball team is picked to finish ninth in the Preseason Pacific West Conference Poll as selected by the conference coaches.
 
The Silverswords, who play their first season on the diamond in 43 years, received 11 points.
 
In an extremely tight vote, Azusa Pacific was picked to win the PacWest, with 76 points while Point Loma got 75. The Sea Lions actually received five first-place votes to Cougars' four. Fresno Pacific was third with 59 points followed by Concordia University Irvine with 50.
 
The top four finishers in the PacWest standings qualify for the conference tournament at APU from May 8-11 with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
 
Point Loma shortstop Scott Anderson was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year while the Preseason Pitcher of the Year is Concordia's Riley O'Sullivan.
 
Chaminade begins the resurrection of its program on Thursday when they face Cal State East Bay at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park at 6 p.m. There will be a ceremony by university administrations shortly before first pitch.
