Four members of the Chaminade University men's soccer team were honored Tuesday as members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Academic All-District teams.
Midfielders
Dominick Barragan (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks),
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and
Kala'i Duncan (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama), along with goalkeeper
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS), were recognized for excellence in the classroom.
It is the second CSC Academic All-District honor for Caba who was also recognized last year.
Barragan, a sophomore Biology major, started nine of his 13 games, logging 782 minutes.
Caba continued to climb the program's assist charts with three more this past season, giving him eight in his career, just one shy of the program record. The Criminology and Criminal Justice major owns a 4.00 GPA.
Duncan had a pair of goals this season, one of three 'Swords who posted a multi-goal campaign. Like Caba, he also has a 4.00 GPA in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Valmonte, who has a 4.00 GPA in Business Administration, made 10 starts for the team, posting 54 saves and earned a pair of draws as the team's last line of defense.
To be recognized on the Academic All-District team, candidates must be a sophomore both academically and athletically, have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and have played in either 90 percent or have started in 66 percent of their team's contests.
Institutions can nominate up to six candidates for Academic All-District honors.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II Academic All-America® programs.
