HONOLULU – Although there were tough times in 2025, the Chaminade University men's soccer team had positive feelings, thanks to a strong finish.
During a three-game run heading down the stretch of the season, the Silverswords collected two wins with a draw to help salvage a tough start.
The 'Swords, who had just one goal to show in their first nine contests, caught fire with seven scores during their 2-0-1 stretch, marking the first multi-win season for the program since 2022.
In the home finale, aka Aloha Senior Day, the 'Swords exploded for four goals against Westmont, fittingly with seniors accounting for three of them, which snapped their 19-game winless streak.
The team then went on the road and salvaged a 1-1 draw at Menlo, getting the game-tying goal with just under four minutes remaining. A 3-1 win at Jessup on Nov. 1 not only ended a streak of 23 straight road winless streak (including ties) dating back to November 2021 but proved the 'Swords could be a threat against any opponent they encountered.
The season also saw the conclusion to one of the top careers in program history. Senior midfielder
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) wrapped up his four seasons in a Chaminade uniform tied atop the career list in both points (25) and assists (9) while finishing third in goals (8). Caba was also a constant on the pitch, logging just over 4,188 minutes, just one of nine players in school history with over 4,000 in a career.
Not far behind was the team's other Owen; senior midfielder
Owen Malone (Carlsbad, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Carlsbad HS) who departs with six career goals.
Senior goalkeeper,
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS), ended his career fourth in saves with 140.
The 'Swords' fourth senior,
Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS), had a solid final year, scoring a pair of goals in 2025, his first two career scores.
Underclassmen who made an impact include
Caleb Yap-Texeira (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui), who scored twice including the stunning goal against Menlo, and junior forward
Vlad Tomutiu (Belmont, Calif./Cañada College/Carlmont HS) who had a goal and assist while leading the team in shots and shots on-goal.
