HONOLULU – The 2025 season for the Chaminade University women's tennis team gets underway Friday when they face traditional Pacific West Conference power Hawai'i Pacific University at the Kailua Racquet Club.
Head coach
Ty Aki, who is entering his 11th year leading the program, has the benefit of eight returnees from last season's squad.
Leading the way for the Silverswords is junior
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui), who established herself as the No. 1 singles and doubles player in all 11 matches last season.
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) served as the No. 3 singles player in 2024 and is a candidate for the No. 2 spot. The senior had the Silverswords' lone single win last year.
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) also returns. She and Ye were doubles partners 10 times a year ago in the No. 2 spot.
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and
Sydney Danielson (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) split time in No. 5 singles while also being paired in doubles four times. Buttery, who is also a member of the Chaminade women's basketball team, also played four singles matches at the No. 6 position.
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) also returns and last season played two matches in both singles and doubles.
Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) and
Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS), the latter who also plays on the women's hoops team, return for a second year.
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) is the Silverswords' lone newcomer, where last season she captured the O'ahu Interscholastic Association West Division singles title with Radford High School.
A majority of the 'Swords' opponents are from the PacWest including a meeting with affiliate member Stanislaus State on Feb. 15. Non-PacWest foes on the docket include Dallas Baptist on Feb. 17 and Southern New Hampshire on March 4. They will also have a northern California road swing in mid-March at Academy of Art and Dominican as well as new PacWest members Jessup and Menlo.
The 'Swords will close the season with home-and-home contests against the University of Hawai'i Hilo on March 29 in Waipahu and April 2 on the Big Island.
The PacWest Championships will be held in Surprise, Arizona from April 16-19. Since the conference does not have a traditional and consistent schedule against other members, the women's championship tournament will consist of 12 teams and selected according to the PacWest tournament seeding committee.
