HONOLULU – The season gets underway next Monday for the Chaminade University women's tennis team, facing in-city rival and longtime Pacific West Conference power Hawai'i Pacific University at the Kailua Racquet Club.
Head coach
Ty Aki, entering his 12th year in the position, has a senior-laden squad with five seniors who've been with the program since they were freshmen.
Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy),
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway),
Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i),
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) comprise the 2026 senior class with loads of experience.
Lau has been the Silverswords' constant No. 1 in both singles and doubles while Carvalho has been also been among the top in both singles and doubles. Buttery, who also plays women's basketball, will continue to participate in both during their respective playing seasons. Bleasdell and Palmer add to the depth of the squad.
Sophomore
Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) had a quality first season in 2025 and will be looked upon to help replace the five departees next year.
Chaminade's lone newcomer, freshman
Hannah Lewis (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs), was a high school standout and looks to help raise the profile of the program in coming years.
Following Monday's HPU tilt, the 'Swords host three foes at their home court at the Don Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center in Waikiki with Dominican, Hawai'i Hilo and Division I Bucknell.
The 'Swords then head off to the mainland for several matches in the Bay Area then return home for another meeting with HPU on March 27.
