HONOLULU – The Chaminade University beach volleyball team made it back-to-back wins over Hawai'i Pacific University on Tuesday, coming away with a 4-1 triumph at Hunakai Park.

Unlike Monday's season opener won by Chaminade, the rematch was more competitive with three flights going into a third set.

The first match of the day was a precursor of the events to come where Kanoelehua Misipeka (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Liberty North, Mo.) and Audrah Johnson (Nampa, Idaho/Utah State University/Nampa HS) outlasted the Sharks' Ella Schoene and Rose Larkin, 21-15, 21-23 and 15-9, in the top flight.

Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) and Beele Wieczorek (Wiesbaden, Germany/Elly-Heuss School) managed a 21-19, 21-11 win at the No. 2 duo spot.

Chaminade clinched the match at Flight 3 when DeLaney Poling (Gilbert, Ariz./Park University/Perry HS) and Aliya Hofherr-Sanders (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hanalani) rallied from a set down to defeat Peyton McBride and Olivia Tangaan, 15-21, 21-16, 15-11.

Allison Panter (Denver, Colo./Portland State University/Denver School of Science and Technology HS) and Ma'ila Stephens (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Siena College/Mililani HS) won the fourth pairing, 21-18 and 21-18.

The most thrilling matchup of the set was at No. 5 with Mykelle Brainard (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge) and Alizaysha Sopi (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Tennessee State University/Kapolei HS) against Maile Salang and Mia Ferdinand. The HPU duo won the first set, 21-16 while CUH won the second, 21-19. In the decisive third set, Salang and Ferdinand eked out the win in extra points, 16-14.

In a non-counting exhibition match, Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons) and Kyra Pagud (Honolulu/Moanalua) won in three over Chayse Hoon and Raiatea Campbell, 19-21, 21-17, 15-8.

The Silverswords (2-0) and Sharks (0-2) renew acquaintances with two more meetings next Monday and Tuesday at Hunakai Park. Times are tentatively set for 12 p.m.
