Honolulu, HI- The crowd was pink, but the victory was red, as the Vulcans of UH-Hilo defeated the Swords 25-21, 25-15, 25-16.
McCabe Gym had a large and vocal crowd, as fans showed up to support “Dig Pink”, an effort to raise cancer awareness. Many in the crowd were wearing pink, and Chaminade held a presentation prior to the game to honor cancer survivors amongst the athletic staff and students.
After the pre-game, the fans were treated to a competitive first game, which see-sawed before the Vulcans finished off CUH, 25-21. UH-Hilo led by Josimara Pinheiro and Morgan Bonney hit .538 in the second game and took the game 25-15. The Vulcans closed out the Lady Swords 25-16 for the three game sweep.
Pisila Tukia led Chaminade at the net with 4 solo blocks. Kristina Donathan had 12 assists for CUH. Samantha Miller added 10 kills and 8 digs in defeat.
Offensively, UH-Hilo out-hit Chaminade .366 to .143 on the match. The Vulcans led in digs, 40-33.
UH-Hilo was led by Josimara Pinheiro with 13 kills.
With the defeat, Chaminade moves to 9-13 on the year. With the win, UHH moves to 17-7.
The Lady Swords are back in action on October 28th to face Academy of Art. First serve is set for 7PM at McCabe Gym.
