Kaneohe, HI- Facing West Region power Sonoma State to start the season is quite the test. Facing the Seawolves with only thirteen players suited up, even tougher. The Swords answered the test early, going up 1-0 in the 13th minute. Sonoma State responded with 4 goals in eighteen minutes to put the game out of reach early in the second half.
Sophomore Matt Muntz started in goal for the Swords, facing 27 shots and giving up 6 goals. Muntz made a save in the defeat.
The Swords took their 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore forward Chad Thompson in the 13th minute and led until the 30 minute mark in the first half. The Seawolves then exploded for three goals before the half. Ross Middlemiss led Sonoma State with two goals and an assist.
Chaminade was out-shot 27-4 on the afternoon.
Chaminade falls to 0-1 on the year in defeat. The Swords are back in action on September 1st at 4:00 PM HT.
