Waipahu, HI- Hall of fame coach Vince Lombardi once said, “The dictionary is the only place that success comes before hard work." Chaminade battled hard against Simon Fraser tonight but lost both games. They bounced back after losing 8 to 0 in the first game, to nearly pulling out the second game, but falling in the end 4 to 3.
Game # 1- The first game the Swords were a little slow starting out and cost them as they lost, 8 to 0 by way of the mercy rule. Which states; that if a team is up by 8 or more runs after 5 innings of play than that team is automatically declared the victor.
The Swords had only two hits on 19 at bats. Sophomore Chelsi Walls gave up 10 hits and 6 earned runs, she falls to 0-3 on the year. Team Captain, Keli-Grace Kaowilli-Saniatan, started off Chaminade's first at bat of the game with a single to the pitcher. Skye Virtudes kept the inning alive with blast to center field moving Keli-Grace to second. Despite starting off strong, Chaminade couldn't capitalize and ended up losing the first game.
Game # 2 – The second game proved to be much better for Chaminade, as they nearly pulled it out falling by a score of 4 to 3. Thanks in large part to solid pitching from Kasy'e Lalau. She pitched all 7 innings, she faced 30 batters, gave up 8 hits and 2 earned runs. She falls to 0-3 on the year.
The Swords bats came alive as they out hit Simon Fraser 9 hits to 8. Erin Keelan led the way batting a perfect, 3 for 3. Kristine Mihara, Keli-Grace Kaowilli- Saniatan, Angel Mahaulu and Melissa Harris each had one hit. Chasity Senas rounded out the team with 2 hits of her own. She said about tonight's match with Simon Fraser, “We stumbled a bit early, we kept our focus and new we could play with this team. I am pleased with our effort the second game, though we didn't pull out the W, we played hard physical softball. We are getting better and only time will tell how we fair the rest of the season.”
With the loss, CUH moves to 0-6 overall, while Simon Fraser moves to 3-1 on the year. The Swords are back in action on February 21st against BYU-Hawaii at 5:00 PM HST, the game will be played at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORPS).
