CUH WVB: Red Storm Earns Victory Over Swords in Four Sets

ST. GEORGE, UT- Match five on Chaminade's mainland road trip was a tough loss at Dixie State in four sets today by scores of: 18-25, 18-25, 25-22 and 20-25.  CUH showed plenty of toughness, winning the third set after dropping the first two of this Pac West Conference matchup.      
 
The Swords fell in the first two sets, but a closer look at the second set showed a competitive set of volleyball. The Swords led 12-10 and was tied 15-15 before a four point surge by Dixie State tilted the second set in the Red Storm's favor.  Chaminade responded in the third set early on, earning the first five points of the set en route to a 25-22 set victory.    
 
The Chaminade offense was led by sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) with 13 kills and 11 digs for CUH.    Junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) added 8 kills and 13 digs, while Allie Board (Redwood City, CA/Notre Dame) added 8 kills as well. 
 
Freshman setter Ka Ua Cale(Waimanalo, HI/Kalaheo) led the Sword attack with 40 assists and 10 digs for Chaminade. 
 
The Swords won the dig battle for the third match in a row (twice vs. GCU) as Chaminade had 72 digs while Dixie State had 69.  Seniors Poerava Gantt (Kapa'a, HI/Kapa'a) and Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) were impressive defensively, tallying 17 and 16 digs respectively for CUH. 
 
Dixie State was led by Alex Shearer with 21 kills.
 
The Swords fall to 2-16 (1-11 PWC) with the loss. The Red Storm move to 12-6 (7-3 in PWC).  Chaminade's road trip continues on October 21st at Dixie State.  First serve is set for 7 PM MT.
