CUH WVB: Chaminade Drops Match to UH-Hilo in Three Sets

Powell leads with 13 kills

HILO, HI- Facing an undefeated UH-Hilo squad in UHH Gymnasium, the Swords fell to the Vulcans 21-25, 17-25 and 20-25.
 
The Swords were within a point late in the  first set, after a kill by senior Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) made the score 22-21 UHH. The Vulcans closed out the set with three straight points to earn the first set victory. UH-Hilo then took the next two sets for the 3-0 sweep.   
 
Chaminade sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) provided the Swords with some offensive firepower, contributing 13 kills and 7 digs while hitting .273.
 
Junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 7 kills and 9 digs in defeat for Chaminade. Senior setter Kristina Donathan (Honolulu, HI/St. Andrew's Priory) contributed 18 assists and 6 digs, while senior Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 10 digs for CUH.   
 
The Swords tied the dig battle 44-44. CUH hit .181 on the match, while UHH hit .288. 
 
The Vulcans were led by Hillary Hurley with 22 kills on a .386 hitting percentage.
 
The Swords fall to 1-6 with the loss. UH-Hilo improves to 5-0. Chaminade is back in action on September 10th at UH-Hilo in UHH Gym. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
