HILO, HI- Chaminade Cross Country continues to make waves on the islands and several Chaminade runners had stellar finishes in this morning's 2012 UH-Hilo Invitational.
Sophomore Jorge Cisneros (Lake Elsinore, CA/Lakeside) nearly won the men's race, leading CUH on the men's side, running a 15:48 and earning a 2nd place finish in the 5k event. The time was under a second slower than Spencer DeAvilla from BYU-Hawaii who was the individual winner. BYU-Hawaii won the team title as well. Freshman Nicola Perez-Garreaud (Kahului, HI/Maui) finished 8
th with a time of 16:41 Chaminade junior Emmanuel Jimenez (Palmdale, CA/Highland) was the Swords third-best finisher, coming in with a 17:07 finishing in 14
th place. The Chaminade men finished in 3
rd place as a team.
CUH junior Emily Oschner (Ventura, CA/Camarillo) continues her breakout junior year, earning a second place finish in the 5K invite with a time of 18:32. Oschner finished behind Polina Babkina of HPU who ran an 18:12. Chaminade finished third out of four teams overall on the women's side. The Sea Warriors won the team title. Freshman Laura Spiegel finished in 21:50 (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) and was the second best Chaminade finisher, good for 18
th overall.
Coach Picl commented on the Chaminade success: “Hilo hosted a great event. I am very happy with our two second places (Emily Oschner and Jorge Cisneros). Our men did great with three top-15 finishers.”
The Swords are off until October 27th when they head to the PacWest Championships, hosted by Hawaii Pacific (in Kahuku, HI, on Oahu's North Shore). Race time is scheduled for 8:00 AM HT.
