XC: Chaminade Harriers Compete at HPU Invitational

Cisneros continues to shine for Sword men

KAHUKU, Hawai'i – The Chaminade men's and women's cross country teams completed their third meet of the season, this time at the HPU Invitational, held Saturday morning at Kahuku Golf Course.

The Silverswords' men finished third behind Hawai'i Pacific and BYU-Hawai'i. The Swords' women's squad came in seventh.

The Silverswords' Jorge Cisneros had his second top-five finish of the young season, coming in third overall in the 8K men's race with a time of 26:54, just 23 seconds behind winner Leandro Santillan of HPU. It's Cisneros' second consecutive top-five finish of the year.

Emmanuel Jimenez came in second among CUH harriers at 29:45.

In the women's 5K race, Ellissa Bio was the top Chaminade finisher, coming in 29th with a time of 23:07. Teammate Shannon Whener was 32nd with a finishing time of 23:23.

"It was a super windy day with real hard conditions," CUH cross country coach Kainalu Picl said. "Everyone did great. Jorge led the men with a podium finish. That was awesome. The women are looking stronger everyday and looking for better results ahead for the PacWest."

Both CUH men's and women's squads are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they compete at the UH-Hilo Invitational on the Big Island.
