XC: Swords Set to Race in 2012 PacWest Championships

Men picked 11th, Women 10th

KAHUKU, HI– More than 100 runners competing in two separate races representing 14 different colleges and universities will chase a pair of Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Kahuku Golf Course in Kahuku, Hawai'i.

The PacWest Championships are being hosted by Hawai'i Pacific University on Oahu beginning Saturday morning at 8 a.m. when the men's race commences at 8 a.m.
The field will consist of 13 teams that will compete on an 8K course. Hawai'i Hilo does not sponsor men's cross country.

At 9 a.m., all 14 PacWest schools will chase the conference championship when the women's 5K race begins at the same location.
The twin races are a prelude to the NCAA Division II West Region Champion that also will be hosted by HPU on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Kahuku Golf Course.

The PacWest will crown individual champions of each race, while the All-PacWest Team will be determined based upon finish with the Top 7 being First Team, 8-14 being Second Team, and 15-21 earning Third Team honors.
Dixie State's Rachel Young returns to defend her 2011 PacWest women's crown, while California Baptist will battle to keep its twin men's and women's titles it claimed last year.

The predictions of the PacWest head coaches were announced live on PacWest Radio on Thursday, Oct. 25, on KQCK in San Tan Valley, Ariz.
