W. Tennis: Chaminade Splits on Day Three of Grand Canyon Tournament

Swords beat Dominican (CA) 7-2; fall to Academy of Art 5-4

PHOENIX, AZ – The Swords were back in action on Saturday following a two-match Friday sweep of Metro State (5-4) and Montana State Billings (9-0). CUH took on two PacWest Conference rivals in Dominican (CA) and Academy of Art.  In Chaminade's first match, the Penguins took two matchups, but it wasn't enough as the Swords won easily, 7-2. 
 
Chaminade won the match on the strength of its doubles teams, winning all three doubles matches.
 
In the second match of the day, CUH fell to the Urban Knights of Academy of Art in a closely contested contest, 5-4.  In #1 and #2 singles, All PacWest performers Yuka Kondo (Irvine, Ca/San Joaquin) and Yanita Arnaudova (Hazkova, Bulgaria/Azen Zlatarov Foreign Language School) won two crucial matches.  Kondo and Arnaudova fell in #1 doubles, while Phanphengdy and Matsumoto won 8-4 in #2 doubles and the Urban Knights won #3 doubles in the 5-4 Academy of Art victory.                  
 
Chaminade is back in action on Sunday, facing Cal State LA at 9:00 AM MT at Ironwood High School in Phoenix, AZ.
 
With yesterday's split, Chaminade moves to 4-1 on the year.
