Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminade women's basketball team is still seeking its first win of the season after dropping a 95-59 decision to Oklahoma Christian in the final night of the O'ahu Classic on Friday at McKinley High School's Student Council Gymnasium.
The Silverswords fell to 0-4 on the season while the Eagles improved to 4-4.
Freshmen
Lilia Maio and
Carissa McBride led the Swords with 10 points each, followed by
Sabrina Angle's nine. McBride and Maio pulled down six and five rebounds, respectively, while Angle hit a trio of 3-pointers.
OCU was led by Krista Stevens, who tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Silverswords opened sluggishly on offense, getting their first bucket over five minutes into the game on a Maio jumper. Defensively, the Swords were able to limit the damage by allowing only eight points in that same span.
However, the Eagles would outscore the Swords, 35-15, the rest of the way to assume a 43-19 halftime lead.
Angela Rigo would open the second half by hitting a 3-pointer from the right corner and the Swords would twice reduce the deficit to under 20 points. But an 18-0 run over a 5-minute span midway through the second half would quell any hopes for a comeback.
However, in the second half, the Swords scored 40 points and shot 40.5 percent from the floor (15-of-37) after going only 8-for-34 (23.5 percent) in the first half.
The Eagles were relentless on the glass, out-rebounding the Silverswords, 72-35, setting a new school record in the process.
Chaminade returns to McCabe Gym on Monday when it opens Pacific West Conference play against Hawai'i-Hilo. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. and with the live audio webstream available on goswords.com.
