Box Score 2 LAIE, HI –Chaminade fell in two non-conference contests this afternoon as the Swords lost to the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii 4-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two.
CUH got on the board early in game one as
Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) doubled and drove in
Kori Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) to lead 1-0 in the top of the first. BYU-Hawaii responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 1-1. Strom-Okimoto struck again in the third inning with another double and scored on a single by sophomore first baseman
Aja Keyes (Kaneohe, HI/Lutheran) to put Chaminade ahead 2-1.
The game stayed that way until the sixth inning as the 'Siders exploded for three runs and a 4-2 lead. A Silversword rally in the seventh inning nearly succeeded as
Samantha Ford (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life Academy) scored, but
Kelsea Berinobis (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) was left on third as the game ended on an
Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) groundout and a BYU-Hawaii 4-3 win.
Sophomore pitcher
Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA/Redondo Union) went six innings, giving up 4 runs (1 earned) and striking out 5 batters. Tiffanee Frampton earned the win for the 'Siders.
Game two saw BYU-Hawaii score five runs in the second inning to create distance from the Swords early in the contest. Freshman
Chelsea Camello (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) earned the start for Chaminade, going two innings and giving up 4 hits and 6 runs (1 earned).
Brett Aspel relieved her following the second inning, giving up 2 hits and 0 runs in four innings of work.
CUH rallied in the final inning, with seniors
Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin Delta JC) and
Dominique Bocanegra (Brisbane, CA / Terra Nova) both scoring in the seventh for Chaminade. The rally ended there and the 'Siders won 6-2.
Gabrielle Hawkins earned the win for BYU-Hawaii while Camello took the loss for the Swords in game two.
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii on Monday, February 18
th in Waipio, HI (CORP). First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT. The Swords move to 1-5, 0-0 in PWC with the losses, while BYU-Hawaii moves to 2-10 overall.
