W. Tennis: Chaminade Drops Opening Match of Grand Canyon Tournament to #37 ARTU 9-0

GLENDALE, AZ – The Swords fell to fellow PacWest Conference member and 37th ranked Academy of Art 9-0 on the first day of the 2013 GCU Tournament.  Chaminade battled at #1 and #2 singles as both junior Jan Matsumoto (Honolulu, HI/Maryknoll) and freshman Kimberly Takara (Mililani, HI/Mililani) battled the Urban Knights before falling.

Coach Rothhammer discussed the loss: "The ladies fought hard in the first match of the tournament. We are starting to find our groove."
 
Chaminade is back in action on Friday, facing Western New Mexico at 12 PM MT and Azusa Pacific at 6 PM MT at the Paseo Racquet Club in Phoenix, AZ.
 
With today's loss, Chaminade moves to 0-2 on the year.  Academy of Art moves to 2-0 on the year with the win.
