W. Tennis: Azusa Pacific Defeats Chaminade 8-1

GLENDALE, AZ – The Swords fell to fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific 8-1 this evening in the Swords third match of the 2013 GCU Tennis Tournament.  Chaminade earned a win at #3 singles as junior Jan Matsumoto (Honolulu, HI/Maryknoll) earned the win in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 7-0.  The Swords also gave the Cougars a battle at #2 doubles before Matsumoto and freshman Kimberly Takara (Mililani, HI/Mililani) fell 8-4.

Coach Rothhammer discussed the match: “The Silverswords fought through cold and windy conditions. Jan Matsumoto earned us our first win of the season with her victory in a tight third set tiebreaker.”
 
Chaminade is back in action on Saturday vs. Fresno Pacific at 12 PM MT and against Sonoma State at 6 PM MT at the Paseo Racquet Club in Phoenix, AZ.
 
With tonight's loss, Chaminade moves to 0-4 on the year.  Azusa Pacific moves to 3-1 on the year with the win.
