WAIPIO, HI- The Chaminade women's tennis team won its first match of the season with a 5-4 win over George Fox University of Oregon today.
The Silverswords found themselves trailing, 2-1, after doubles competition. The Swords split the first two singles matches with
Kimberly Takara (Mililani, HI/Mililani) downing Chantelle Hadeed (6-0, 6-2) in the opening match, while
Roni Hewett (Julietta, ID/Clarkston) lost to Alyssa Emoto (6-1, 6-0). The Swords would win two of the next three matches to even the match at 4. On the final match of the day,
Shayla Hosaka (Kailua, HI/Castle) clinched the win for CUH, defeating Bethany Nguyen, 7-5, 6-2.

“Everyone played so well,” Swords interim head coach Keawe Ayau said. “Everything that we practiced, showed today. It was awesome. Practice really paid off.”
The Swords improved to 1-10 on the season. CUH returns to action on Monday, March 25, when they face HPU at Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipio, beginning at 10 a.m.
