The Silverswords are tied with Notre Dame de Namur, 30 shots behind 16
th-ranked and host Dixie State, which leads the field.
Junior
Jarin Harada leads the Silverswords contingent after firing a first round 1-over 73, putting the Maryknoll graduate in a five-way tie for ninth, just six shots behind Round 1 leader Drew Nelson of Dominican. Harada had four birdies and was 1-under heading to the final hole, but a double-bogey on 18 put him at plus-1.
Sophomore
Justin Taparra is two shots behind Harada after shooting a 3-over 75, putting the Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate in a tie for 16
th.
Freshman
R.J. Garczynski overcame three double-bogeys through his first seven holes to finish at 9-over, putting him in tie for 33
rd.
Freshman
Lucas Park finished his first round at 15-over while
Ryan Look rounded out the 'Swords individually at 16-over.
"Jarin and Justin played solid rounds," Chaminade head coach
Renee Yuen said. "They have been playing consistently well this season, building up to this tournament. We started our rounds late in the morning and had to face strong winds that built up in the late afternoon.
"It was the first PacWest Championship for the other three team members and two are freshman, so they did well too."
The PacWest Championships continues Tuesday with the Silverswords receiving earlier tee times in the second round.
