Box scoreHONOLULU – The women's tennis match between Chaminade and Dominican was finally completed, 29 hours after it began.
After rains washed out all but two doubles matches on Tuesday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park in Waipahu, the match was moved to the newly refurbished on-campus Chaminade Tennis Courts, where the Penguins completed a 5-0 win amid windy conditions.
The Silverswords trailed 2-0 heading into the resumption of the match as their No. 2 doubles squad of
Michelle Bucher and
Emma Haurillon held a lead late in the final doubles pairing. But DUC's duo of Solveig Karlsen and Kelly Zwicker rallied and pulled out a 9-7 win to sweep the doubles competition.
In singles,
Kimberly Takara fell to Rickimae Torres in the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-1, while
Hannah Parker was defeated by Cori Beeby, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position.
Due to time constraints, the match was made a best-of-nine. It was also a rare chance for the Silverswords to play an actual match on their dual courts, which underwent a surface makeover last summer.
The 'Swords return to action Thursday when they face the University of Tampa at CORP Field at 10 a.m.
