KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team completed the Holua Tennis Invitational, falling to Hawai'i Hilo, 9-0, Sunday at the Holua Tennis & Pickleball Center.
In doubles action to start the match,
Kauanoe Beamer and
Tomomi Kohno teamed up for the first time in No. 1 doubles but fell to the Vulcans' Daniela Sanz Caseli and Sara Valero, 8-2.
Cai Yan Fang and
Elyssa Shirai paired up for the first time this season in the No. 2 spot but fell, 8-0, to Kinsey Volkart and Cheyenne Schula. The 'Swords' No. 3 team of
Emma Haurillon and
Kim Spring managed to take two games before dropping an 8-2 decision to Napapon Vorasane and Caralyn Fitzpatrick, 8-2.
In singles competition, Fang gave Volkart a battle in the No. 3 spot before falling 6-1, 6-2. Kohno and Haurillon also battled in the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, respectively, before dropping identical 6-2, 6-1 scores to Schula and Carsey. Spring managed to take a game off Vorasane in the second set in her 6-0, 6-1 loss.
The 'Swords fell to 0-4 on the season while UH Hilo improved to 1-3.
The Silverswords return to action on Monday, Feb. 27 against Hawai'i Pacific University, ranked fifth in the nation and second in the West Region. First serve is scheduled at 11 a.m. at a location still to be determined. The match is the conclusion to a Chaminade vs. HPU weekend that will see the men's and women's basketball teams square off on this Saturday and the softball teams on Sunday, Feb. 26.
