KAILUA, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team returned to action Monday, dropping a 9-0 decision to No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The match was the fourth athletic contest between Chaminade and HPU over the weekend and concluded the "Rivalry Weekend" festivities which featured men's and women's basketball on Saturday and softball on Sunday.
The Silverswords' No. 2 doubles team of
Cai Yan Fang and
Tomomi Kohno managed to take a game off the Sharks' duo of Lara Meccico and Leticia Gonzalez dos Santos before falling, 8-1.
In the afternoon's singles competition, four 'Swords took games from their counterparts, marking the first such occurrence against HPU since March 2012.
Elyssa Shirai took a first-set game from Meccico in No. 2 singles, Fang won one in the second set from Oceane Adam at No. 3 singles while Kohno (No. 4) and
Emma Haurillon (No. 5) both took games in their second set matches against Barbora Kijasova and Dos Santos, respectively.
The Silverswords fell to 0-5 while the Sharks improved to 3-0.
The 'Swords will next be in action on Tuesday, March 7 when they host Dominican University of California at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park at 10 a.m.
