WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend by dropping a 9-0 decision to Holy Names Sunday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Playing for the third time in four days, the Silverswords (0-9) had perhaps their most competitive match of the season with several players managing to take games from the Hawks (3-8).
The most hotly contested match was in No. 1 doubles with freshmen teammates
Cai Yan Fang and
Tomomi Kohno falling to the Hawks' duo of Eliza McKean and Rutendo Gwaze, 8-5. Also in doubles, the tandems of
Elyssa Shirai/
Emma Haurillon and
Hannah Parker/
Kim Spring managed to take singles games. It was the first time this season that all three Chaminade doubles teams had won games from opponents in a single match this season.
In singles action that followed, Haurillon battled Taylor Barajas, taking three games in the first set before falling in straight sets in No. 4 singles. And in the No. 6 spot,
Jackie McGreal managed to take a game off Gwaze, her first of the season.
The 'Swords will next be in action on Friday when they face Southern New Hampshire at the BYU-Hawai'i Tennis Courts at 2 p.m. Also that day, the Silverswords will finish their match against BYUH which suspended last Friday due to rain.
