LAIE, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team returned to action Friday, playing a pair of matches at the BYU-Hawai'i Tennis Courts.
The Silverswords faced Southern New Hampshire to open the day, falling 9-0. The 'Swords then wrapped up the afternoon dropping a 6-0 decision to No. 2 BYUH in a completion of the match that was suspended on March 10 due to rain.
vs. Southern New Hampshire
The 'Swords were unable to make a dent in doubles against the Penmen (14-5), the No. 6-ranked team in the East Region by the ITA. However, they got a competitive match from
Kim Spring in No. 5 singles before falling, 6-0, 6-3, to Rachel Wagner while
Hannah Parker took a game from Lindsey Baum in the second set (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 6 spot.
Freshman
Cai Yan Fang, playing her third match at No. 1 singles, got valuable experience as she faced off against her first-ever nationally-ranked opponent in Alba Chadli who is ranked 50
th in the national singles rankings and second in the East Region.
vs. BYU-Hawai'i
In an abbreviated "first-to-five" contest, the Seasiders (16-0), who are also the top-ranked squad in the West Region, captured all six singles matches with the final three matches ending simultaneously.
Freshman
Elyssa Shirai squared off against Dallas Zhang in No. 2 singles and managed to take a game off the second-ranked player in the nation, falling 6-1, 6-0.
The Silverswords (0-11) will return to action Monday when they host The College of Idaho at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park starting at 10 a.m., the first of two meetings between the schools next week.
