WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team ended their three-matches-in-three-days spring break stretch by falling to The College of Idaho, 8-1, Wednesday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Cai Yan Fang and
Tomomi Kohno got the Silverswords' lone win of the day, defeating the Yotes' Erin Huffman and Hailey Boyd, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles. It was the second consecutive win for the former McKinley High School doubles partners after winning their match on Tuesday against Mills College.
Elyssa Shirai and
Emma Haurillon fell in No. 2 doubles while
Hannah Parker and
Jackie McGreal lost their No. 3 doubles match.
In singles action, the youthful 'Swords continued to show competitiveness despite falling in all six matches.
Shirai and Fang were downed by Megan Huffman and Alex Sorte in identical 6-2, 6-2 scores in No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively.
In No. 3 singles, Kohno fell to Erin Huffman 6-2, 6-0 while Haurillon battled Allie Boyd before dropping a 6-1, 6-4 decision in the No. 4 spot.
Kim Spring fell to Vanessa Almaraz 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles while Parker was downed in the No. 6 position by Hailey Boyd 6-0, 6-0.
Chaminade fell to 1-13 on the season while COI improved to 3-5.
The Silverswords will end the season on April 7 against nationally-ranked BYU-Hawai'i which will be the final meeting in the long history of the between the two programs.
