WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team came close to capturing their first win of the season but fell short to Bethel University of Minnesota, 9-0, Friday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis) and
Salamasina Te`i (Hau'ula, Hawai'i/Kahuku) came close to a win in No. 1 doubles before falling short to the Royals' duo of Maggie Riemann and Mattie Kidder, 8-5. Cai Yang Fang (Zhongshan, China/McKinley) and
Elyssa Shirai (Waipahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) came even closer to victory before being outlasted in No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
In singles action, Liner fell to Riemann 6-2, 6-4, in No. 1 singles while Shirai, playing in the No. 2 singles spot for the first time this year, dropped her match 6-0, 6-1. Te`i fell in her match at the No. 3 position 6-0, 6-1 while in No. 4 singles, Fang lost to Jill Weinzettel 6-1, 6-2.
The Silverswords fell to 0-7 on the year while Bethel improved to 7-1.
Chaminade will close the season on April 13 against its third Division I foe of the year, UC Riverside, at Keehi Lagoon Park.
