WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's golf team opened up the annual Dennis Rose Invitational in 16th place after Monday's first round.
The Silverswords shot a 321 and trails 15th-place Drury by just two shots at the 7,074-yard, par-72 Waikoloa Kings' Course.
Jeren Nishimoto (Honolulu/Kaiser) carded an opening round 2-over-par 74 and is in a logjam in 13th place overall, just six shots off the leader, Devin Gregg of Sonoma State.
Schuyler Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) is five shots behind Nishimoto with a 7-over 79.
Colby Gunderson (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Castle) and
Desmond Mello (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i-Manoa/Moanalua HS) both shot 84 while
Daniel McIntyre (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) carded a 93.
Sonoma State is in the team lead with a 289.
The second round of the Invitational is Tuesday with tee offs at 7 a.m.
