TEMPE, Ariz. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team was named Wednesday as a recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award.
The Silverswords posted a team grade point average of 3.542 among all members of the team during the 2018-19 academic calendar. It is the third straight year the team has earned the award.
Also, eight 'Swords were also recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes with GPAs over 3.50 for the '18-19 year. They are
Rachel Arakawa (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser),
Cai Yan Fang (Zhongshan, China),
Catrina Liner (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis),
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt),
Elyssa Shirai (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City),
Salamasina Te`i (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kahuku) and
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel).
The All-Academic Team award goes any ITA member program with a minimum cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or higher with all team members' GPAs factoring into the calculations.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.50 during the current academic year and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
