Reedy, Saulala Earn PacWest Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – A 2-0 start to open league play has garnered Pacific West Conference honors for two Chaminade University women's volleyball players.

Right-side hitter Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif.) was named the PacWest Player of the Week while middle blocker Lataisia Saulala (Morgan Hill, Calif./Oakwood) earned Defender of the Week.

Reedy slammed down 25 total kills while hitting .478 as the Silverswords defeated island rivals Hawai'i Pacific University and University of Hawai'i Hilo last week. The junior had eight kills, three digs and two blocks against HPU on Thursday then tied a season-high with 17 kills while hitting .500 Saturday at UH Hilo in the 'Swords' five-set win.

Saulala continues her breakout season as a first-year starter by totaling 18 kills and tallying 14 total blocks last week. After an eight-kill, four-block match against the Sharks, the sophomore made history against the Vulcans by becoming the first Silversword in program history to record a kill/block double-double with 10 kills and 10 total blocks. Her total blocks and her nine block assists against UH Hilo are both tied for second in school history for a single match. She currently ranks second in the PacWest hitting percentage at .386 and sixth in blocks at 0.94.

It's Reedy's first career PacWest weekly award while Saulala picked up her second this season.

Holy Names' Jasmine Yun was named the conference's Freshman of the Week.

Meanwhile, Chaminade continues to receive votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll which was also released Monday. The 'Swords received 36 points which places them at No. 33.

The 8-2 Silverswords embark on an 11-day, five-match road trip to Northern California which begins Saturday at Notre Dame de Namur. The 'Swords will look to extend a 10-match winning streak in the region dating back to 2016.
