Sept. 21, 2007: Men's Soccer Shatters Records in First-Ever Win
Tony Palacios
Three-hundred eight-four days after playing their first intercollegiate game, the Silverswords finally put a notch in the 'W' column. They did so in overwhelming fashion.
Seven 'Swords found the back of the net including two goals each from
Jason Gomez and
Tony Palacios as they routed Southwestern College, 9-2, in Phoenix, Ariz. The team was winless with one tie in their previous 25 contests.
Chaminade scored the match's first four goals including three in a span of two minutes (Palascios at 25:00, Marc Contee at 26:00 and TJ Meyer at 27:00) which remains a program record for fastest three consecutive goals. The 'Swords added five more in the final 45 minutes.
Goalkeeper
Darren Smith got the win for the 'Swords while
Chad Nishikuni had the game's first assist and later added a goal to become the first Chaminade player to record a goal and assist in the same game.
The nine goals scored remains a single-match record. Gomez, who also had an assist, had five points which remained a school record until it was broken eight years later.
