HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team placed three players on two separate all-region teams while head coach
Kahala Kabalis Hoke also earned region recognition.
Outside hitter
Brooklen Pe'a (Woods Cross, Utah/Youngstown State/Bountiful HS) and setter
Alexia Byrnes (Chicago/Youngstown State/Saint Francis) were both named to the all-west region first teams for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).
Anna Dalla Vecchia (Vicenza, Italy/University of San Francisco/IIS S.B. Boscardin HS) was honored by the AVCA as an honorable mention All-West Region libero while Kabalis Hoke was voted as the AVCA Division II West Region Coach of the Year.
Pe'a earned the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year after averaging 2.98 kills and 2.34 digs per set to help the Silverswords win their first conference title since 1996. She also had 42 total blocks and 30 service aces.
Byrnes was the PacWest Setter and Newcomer of the Year, breaking a school record with 1,127 assists, 25 aces while averaging 2.81 digs per set. A six-rotation player, she also had 34 blocks while putting down 139 kills, the most by a Chaminade setter in over three decades.
Dalla Vecchia earned All-PacWest First Team honors after breaking school records in digs (619) and digs average (5.16). Her 34 digs in a sweep over Fresno Pacific on Nov. 3 set a program record for a three-set match and is also the second-highest in conference history.
Kabalis Hoke guided the 'Swords to a program record 27 wins, capturing the elusive PacWest championship and the program's fourth postseason appearance which begins Thursday in San Bernardino, Calif. The Silverswords have three straight championship seasons of 22 wins or more. The program had just one 20-win season before their current run began in 2018.
As all-region first team selections, Pe'a and Byrnes are now eligible for All-America status by both the AVCA and D2CCA.
Cal State San Bernardino outside hitter Alexis Cardoza was named the West Region Player of the Year by both organizations.
