De Leon, Kosins Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Chaminade University men's soccer defender Lyric De Leon (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Grand Canyon/Kapolei HS) and forward Takahiro Kosins (Tokyo, Japan/Colorado Mesa/Kalani HS) were named Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division II Academic All-District 8 Team, as voted by members of CoSIDA.
 
De Leon, a three-time Academic All-Pacific West Conference and D2 ADA Academic Achievement awardee, has started all but one of his 46 career matches and has been a primary factor in the Silverswords' first-ever consecutive winning seasons in 2018 and '19. He currently has a streak of 1,299 consecutive minutes played over the course of the last two years. Le Leon graduated this past spring with his Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and Criminology major and holds a cumulative grade-point average of 3.85.
 
Like De Leon, Kosins has played a major role for the 'Swords after transferring from Colorado Mesa University in the fall of 2019 in which he scored two goals and assisted on two more. Kosins earned Academic All-PacWest honors in 2019. Kosins, an Elementary Education major, sports a 3.77 cumulative GPA.
 
De Leon and Kosins are the first 'Swords from men's soccer to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District. Both are seniors academically but are expected to return in the fall and use the NCAA's season-of-eligibility waiver, which restores one more season of competition after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out all fall 2020 championships. They are also eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors which will be announced in July.
 
The Division II CoSIDA Academic All-America program is partially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II Academic All-America programs.
