SAN LEANDRO, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's and men's cross country teams concluded their 2022 seasons Saturday with the Pacific West Conference Championships at the Oyster Bay Regional Course.
The Silversword men had a ninth-place finish with 247 points while the 'Swords' women had their highest finish since the 2011 championship by coming in eighth of 11 squads with 257 points.
The men's 8-kilometer race opened the championships with where
Owen Daugherty (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) recorded his fifth top team finish, coming in at 28 minutes, 8.5 seconds, good for 56th overall.
Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama), in the final race of his collegiate career, came in at 29:26.3, his second-best 8-k personal time in an 8-k event.
Ben Salinas (Highland, Ind./Western Colorado Univ./Highland HS) was just 13 seconds behind at 29:39.3.
Peyton Oshiro (Honolulu/Hawai'i Baptist Academy) was Chaminade's next finisher at 30:36.7 followed by
Peter Jan Ramos (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu) at 31:33.6 and
Conor McMahon (Pacific, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) at 35:30.2.
Biola won the PacWest men's title with 41 points, just one point better than runner-up Azusa Pacific. The individual PacWest champion was BU's Benjamin White with a time of 24:22.9 with Fresno Pacific's Bryan Banuelos coming in second at 24:27.8.
In the women's 6-k which followed, the Chaminade ladies' eighth-place standing was their highest since a sixth-place finish in the 2011 championships held in Goodyear, Arizona.
Anne Drelling (Orange County, Calif./Canyon) was the Silverswords' top finisher, clocking in at 24:50.8 for a 53rd place overall finish.
Zoe McDonough (Fremont, Calif./Washington) came in at 25:20.3 followed by
Caitlin Bocobo (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) at 25:35.2.
Eri Leong (Las Vegas/SECTA) logged a time of 28:14.4 followed by
Leila-Jayne Casison (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu), who was just a second behind, at 28:15.6,
Montserrat Lanfranco (Honolulu/Roosevelt) at 29:20.5 and
Ashley Yoshikawa (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) at 30:20.7.
Biola made it a 2-for-2 morning by also capturing the PacWest women's championship with 36 points, besting runner-up Azusa Pacific by 16 points. In a photo finish, BU's Lynette Ruiz came from behind in the final meter to capture the individual crown at 21:27.8, beating APU's Eline Pinter by just 0.2 seconds.
