IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team is picked to finish 11th in the Pacific West Conference Coaches Preseason Poll.
Azusa Pacific was chosen by the conference coaches to become PacWest champions for the third straight season, receiving 10 of the first-place votes. Dominican University of California, picked third, received the remaining vote while Point Loma is predicted to finish second.
Concordia University Irvine, conference newcomer Westmont College and Biola were picked to finish fourth through sixth, respectively, as the predicted qualifiers for the PacWest Tournament, which will be played in San Diego.
The Silverswords return second-leading scorer and assists leader
Dallas Martinez (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Whittier College/Sacred Hearts Academy), who averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 assists a season ago.
Also back are
Emma Morris (Tucson, Ariz./Tanque Verde),
Dezaray Carter (Honolulu/Sacred Hearts Academy),
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and
Sasha Phillip (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Baptist). Morris started 23 contests while Carter was a part-time starter with 10.
The Preseason All-PacWest Team will be announced next week.
