Alexia Byrnes PWC VB Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Byrnes Named PacWest Volleyball Scholar-Athlete

IRVINE, Calif. – Former Chaminade University setter Alexia Byrnes (Chicago/Youngstown State/Saint Francis HS) on Wednesday was named the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
The award is yet another accolade for the redshirt senior. In helping the Silverswords win their second straight PacWest championship and the school's first-ever NCAA West Regional finals appearance, Byrnes was also the conference Player and Setter of the Year while garnering All-West Region honors.
 
In her two seasons at Chaminade, the 'Swords went 53-14 with a 36-4 conference mark and captured two PacWest titles. Byrnes is fifth in the school's all-time assists list with 1,993 and, combined with her three years at Youngstown State, wrapped up her collegiate career with 3,251 total assists.
 
The Chicago native has a 3.86 grade-point average in Master's courses in Counseling Psychology.
 
Byrnes is one of the 15 student-athletes who were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year in each PacWest-sponsored sports. She is now eligible for the overall Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year which will be announced in early July.
