IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University guard
Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week.
The junior hauled in 18 defensive rebounds last week including 10 in last Thursday's win over Hawai'i Pacific University, which was the 'Swords' first victory over their in-city opponent in nearly 17 years, spanning 40 games.
She also added 30 points during the week, which included 18 against the Sharks and 12 in last Monday's game versus Dominican University of California. At 12.8 points per game, she is the PacWest's fifth-leading scorer and is seventh in free throw percentage at 74.1.
Elmasri is the first 'Swords women's basketball player to earn a conference player of the week award since Destiny Castro was the defensive player of the week in February 2020.
Azusa Pacific's Paige Uyehara earned the PacWest Player of the Week award.
The Silverswords will face APU, the two-time defending PacWest champion, on Thursday followed Saturday against Point Loma. Both games are at McCabe Gymnasium.
