10/7/2024 4:29:00 PM

The Chaminade University women's volleyball team on Monday fell to No. 10 in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll but was also named the Pacific West Conference Team of the Week.

The Silverswords were tied for ninth last week with West Texas A&M, which is in sole possession of the No. spot this week.

The top three spots remain the same, with the University of Tampa at No. 1, followed by MSU Denver and Nebraska-Kearney. Coming in at No. 4 is Ferris State, who moved up a spot from last week, and coming in at No. 5 is St. Cloud State which defeated the 'Swords earlier this season in the Yotes Classic Showcase.

Point Loma is the other PacWest team in the poll, moving up three spots to No. 17. Two West Region teams are also in the poll, with Cal Poly Pomona coming in at No. 8, and Cal State San Bernardino at No. 24.

The Silverswords, who earned the PacWest Team of the Week honor for the second time this season, won all four of their northern California matches last week to sweep the NorCal trip for the seventh consecutive year. Among their victories, a four-set win at Fresno Pacific, which had just one PacWest loss entering Saturday's tilt. The win was also their 52nd straight against PacWest NorCal foes.

Point Loma had both Player and Defender of the Week in Abigail Nua and Makenna Joyce, respectively.

After playing 13 of their first 17 contests on the mainland, the 'Swords will finally get an extended stay at home with eight straight matches on O'ahu including seven at McCabe Gymnasium. They open a four-match home stand Friday against Westmont at 7 p.m.

Prior to the match, there will be a fall sports pep rally at the Sullivan Library Lawn at 5 p.m. with food, music and prizes. Chaminade's other fall sports including men's and women's cross country and men's and women's soccer teams, will also be introduced.
