LONG BEACH, Calif. – Chaminade University guard Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS) was named Monday the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The senior guard poured in a career-high 27 points in the Silverswords' 73-69 win over in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University on Saturday, topping her previous high of 24 as a member of Birmingham-Southern in November 2022 against Belhaven. Upping their PacWest mark to 2-0, it is the Chaminade's best conference start since the 2015-16 season when the 'Swords' began that season 3-0.

Elmasri was 8-for-16 from the field and scored 19 of her points in the second half including the game-winning free throws with 22 seconds left to play. After dropping 40 straight contests to the Sharks dating back to March 2007 which ended last season, the 'Swords have won two of the last three meetings against HPU.

It is Elmasri's second career PacWest weekly honor, earning defender of the year last January. She is the first Chaminade women's player to earn the conference's player of the week award, five years ago to the day when Destiny Castro was honored.

Point Loma's Eiley Tippins is the PacWest Defender of the Week while Azusa Pacific is the Team of the Week.

The Silverswords (3-5 overall) open a three-game conference northern California road trip starting Tuesday at new conference member Menlo College.
