Three members from the Chaminade University women's basketball team on Wednesday were recognized for academic excellence by being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS),
Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS) and
Emma Morris (Tucson, Ariz./Tanque Verde) were honored for work in the classroom as well as on the court.
Elmasri averaged 11.9 points, 6.4 rebounds per game and 36 made 3-pointers, all of which led the team. The Biology major who transferred from Birmingham-Southern College also tallied six double-doubles.
Holen, a transfer from fellow Division II institution Minot State, was the Silverswords' No. 3 scorer at 8.3 points per game. The redshirt sophomore is majoring in Data Science.
Morris played all four years in the royal blue and white, with averages of 4.5 points and 2.2 boards per game. The Arizona native will graduate with a Biology degree this spring.
To be considered for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and participate in at least 90 percent or start in at least 66 percent of the team's total games for the season.
