Honolulu, HI – The last time these two teams met Chaminade snapped their losing streak of 2 complete seasons with a game wining shot by Junior, Kellene Costello. Unfortunately, tonight there was no last second shot, just a hard fought battle through out, the Lady Swords fell to the Seasiders 54 to 51.
Chaminade trailed by only one point at the half, trailing 24 to 23. Samantha Saito led the charge with 15 points; Megan Kamehiro added 10 points and Kaci Will contributed with 9 points and 9 boards of her own. This game literally game down to the closing seconds, BYUH hit a couple of clutch free throws during the last minute to secure the win.
Richelle Fenenbock led the way for BYUH with 24 points on 35 minutes of playing time. Chaminade lost the rebounding battle 45 to 31 and both teams struggled shooting the ball. The Lady Swords and the Seasiders of BYU Hawaii both shot 33% from the floor for the entire game. BYUH shot a little bit better from the charity line, connecting on 60% of their shots. Compared to CUH's 52%, that little bit of difference between percentages allowed BYUH a chance to win.
One thing is for sure Chamiande faithful, be assured of one thing and one thing only tonight, that is that our Lady Swords never gave up tonight. They played with incredible tenacity until the final buzzer of the game. They never imagined they could lose and thought of defeat never entered their minds. This game proved that we are capable of playing 40 minutes of hard fought basketball well, unfortunately for our Lady Swords their efforts were not enough against BYU Hawaii.
The Swords are back in action against PacWest Conference opponent, Notre Dame de Namur on February 3rd, 2010 at McCabe Gym. Tip off is set for 5:30PM HST.
With the loss CUH falls to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in the PACWEST, while BYU Hawaii improves their record to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the PACWEST.
