CUH WBB: Sword Comeback Effort Falls Short Against D-One Stars 71-61

Tauau leads with 18 points

HONOLULU, HI – The Lady Swords fell to the D-One Stars 71-61 tonight in an exhibition in front of several hundred fans in McCabe Gym.
 
The Swords got off to a slow start, shooting just 15% from the floor in the opening half of basketball as the D-One Stars led 28-17 at the half.  The D-One Stars shot 36% in the opening half en route to the eleven point lead. 
 
The Swords offense kicked into gear in the second half, as the Swords connected on eight three-pointers in the half and used a decisive rebounding advantage to create second chances.  Chaminade shot 46% from the floor and 47% from three in the final twenty minutes. The Swords were within striking at 44-41 after a Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City)  jumper with just under 11 minutes left to play.  The D-One Stars went on a 10-2 run to create distance down the stretch for the win.   
 
Junior forward Nikki Tauau (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica) led the way for Chaminade with 18 points, 9 rebounds in defeat.  Sophomore Jordan Ahakuelo an all-conference performer as a freshman, had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in an all-around effort, continuing where she left off in her freshman campaign. Junior point guard Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI /Roosevelt) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.   
 
Chaminade won the rebounding battle against a taller D-One Stars, 48-41. 
   
D-One Stars were led by Keisha Kanekoa with 16 points and 6 assists in the win.
 
Chaminade is back in action against Wilmington on Nov. 24th at McKinley High School in Honolulu, HI in the Oahu Classic.  Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM HT.
